The International
Director: Tom Tykwer
Writer: Eric Singer
2009
If you like foreign intrigue, corporate cover-ups, world-dominating banks and of course Clive Owen, then this film is definitely one to see. Clive Owen plays Lou Salinger (aka Louis aka a name that does not suit him), formerly from Scotland Yard and now with Interpol, who teams up with FBI agent Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) to investigate a certain bank set on world domination. Throughout the whole film you are rooting for the agents to take down the bank superstructure that finances murder, war and world destruction, which actually does seem plausible. The again, when Clive Owen is telling you something how can you not believe it? In all seriousness though, The International is a really good film. It’s very suspenseful, all thanks to an excellent score by Reinhold Heil, Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer that sets and carries the tone of the entire film keeping you on the edge of your seat waiting for something to creep out of the corner. The film is more thriller than action however, one of the best and most action packed sequences happens just over halfway into the film. Just so I don’t give it away I’ll only say this: when it was over my friend turned to me and said “they just destroyed the Guggenheim!” To which I replied, “Yeah! And it was totally awesome!” Now tell me you won’t be thinking the same thing. Go see it!
