Quantum of Solace
Director: Marc Forster
Writer: Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade
2008
A lot of people don’t like this Bond film, because it was all action and no character development. To them I say, “did you see Casino Royale?” Quantum picks up just moments after Casino Royale ended, and the people Bond pursued in that film are connected to the people he continues to pursue in this film. Casino Royale was all character development, and displayed a cocky know-it-all Bond until he had everything taken away from him, but in Quantum it is Bond with a reality check, taking his job and his life a little more seriously though he is a rogue agent wreaking havoc wherever he is. Yes, he is still a bit reckless, but he’s getting along just fine and will learn to be as suave, intelligent and sly as the James Bonds we know and love. The end of the film left me with high expectations for a third installment, though I hope Daniel Craig’s Bond will always be a little rough around the edges because it suits him better, plus it takes years to be as suave and perfect as Roger Moore’s Bond.
